Harper Convicted of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Short-Barreled Shotgun

The Office of the State Attorney Glenn Hess announces that on Thursday, September 26, 2019, a six-member jury found Michael Anthony Harper guilty of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of Short-Barreled Shotgun.

On November 26, 2018, Bay County Sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant on 5604 Hathaway Road.  A search of the residence resulted in the recovery of an illegally modified short-barreled shotgun found in Harper’s locked bedroom.  At trial, the State presented evidence establishing that Harper was in possession of the firearm and that he was a convicted felon.

The Honorable Judge Dedee Costello classified the defendant as a Habitual Felony Offender and sentenced Harper to five (5) years in the Department of Corrections.

The case was investigated by Jeremy Head of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Lawrence Gill and Lynelle Dowe.
